France, Netherlands pull out of Riyadh summit

France and the Netherlands have cancelled their participation in an economic summit in Saudi Arabia over the disappearance of dissident Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Dutch Finance Minister Wopka Hoekstra said he decided to scrap the plan due to concerns over the fate of kingdom’s critic. The Netherlands has also suspended all trade missions to Saudi Arabia for the next month over the issue.

France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire earlier made a similar move. They were scheduled to attend an investment conference in Riyadh next week.

Many prominent entrepreneurs and business figures and several other European countries have canceled their plans to attend the investment conference due to be held next week in Riyadh.
