What the Nord Stream 2 pipeline means for the EU and the US

The German parliament has cleared the way for Gazprom’s Nord Stream 2.

The contentious pipeline is being constructed to deliver Russian gas directly to Germany under the Baltic Sea, angering traditional transit countries like Ukraine.

There are also fears Moscow could use it as a political tool. It’s turned off the taps to customers before.

And Washington doesn’t like the project.

The US wants to sell its natural gas to Europe.
