Iranians with Down syndrome and autism serve up a cuppa at ‘Downtism’

In Iran’s capital, Tehran, Downtism Cafe is staffed entirely by people with Down syndrome and autism.

With high unemployment, jobs are hard to come by in Iran, especially for people with disabilities.

The founder of the cafe, Ailin Agahi, opened the cafe to give them a purpose and to show that people with disabilities can contribute to a society where they are often hidden from view.

She is the only one at the business, which runs at a deficit, who isn’t paid for her efforts.
